The Field

The pigs have approximately ¾ of an acre in which they can forage and root. The land has been unused for the last 20 years and so they have plenty of insects and grubs to supplement their diet.

When we first accessed the field we had to cut through the hedge which had overgrown the old gateway. No one had been inside for 20 years, and the hedges were over 20 foot tall. From the outside you could hardly see the field was there, and were completely hidden when you were in it – so it felt very much like The Secret Garden.

In February 2008 we fenced the field – it was a steep learning curve! But transformed the field once it was done.

We had sourced much of our materials from the Wiltshire Wood Recycling, as it is important to us that Folly Pigs is as sustainable as can be. The posts themselves were from the National Trust – only the best for our pigs!

NB curved perimeters are a lot of work!
